Bauchi lost 26 lives, N132m property to fire in 2014 – official

BAUCHI – Bauchi State lost 26 lives and property worth N132.31 million to fire disasters in 2014, an [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]official said on Wednesday.
The Acting Director of the State Fire Service, Mallam Ahmed Mohammed, made this known in Bauchi in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Mohammed said that the service saved 122 lives and property worth N1.32 million during the period

under review.
He also said that the service received 245 distressed calls from individuals during the period, and promptly responded to them.
Mohammed said that the agency’s 317 workers and four functional vehicles were inadequate to cater for the state.
He said that the agency needed more 200 workers and 12 fire fighter vehicles.
Mohammed told NAN that the workers needed to be adequately trained in fire fighting techniques.
The acting director said that the service required offices in Dass, Jama’are, Misau and Ningi in addition to the current two offices in Bauchi and Azare to serve the state more effectively. (NAN).
