Bauchi to establish science and technology park

BAUCHI – The Bauchi State Government on Thursday reiterated its commitment to establish science and technology park in an effort to boost technological development in the state.

The state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Alhaji Bala Abdullahi, made this known in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi.

Abdullahi said that the park, when established, would be devoted to scientific and technological activities, where all science and technology related enterprises would be located.

He said that the idea was to enhance a synergy among relevant stakeholders investing in science and technology for better nurturing to ensure steady growth.

“The park will provide entrepreneurs in technology- related ventures, the opportunity to set up their workshops in clusters for mutual benefits.

“It will also provide space for the graduates of our proposed technology incubation centre, to set up their business,’ he said.

He said that such measure would help in promoting the use of research and innovation to enhance the socio-economic development of the state.

The commissioner said that 10 hectares of land had already been allocated for the establishment of the park at Durum village, along Ningi road, Bauchi.

He explained that the science and technology park was one of the recommendations of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.

“After 54 years of independence, Nigeria had failed to come up with either a globally recognized company, or product originating from Nigerian indigenous technology.

“This is because the national economy had not been technology-driven.

“The measure will therefore increase awareness on the role of science and technology parks, and trigger the much desired science and technology-based economic development in the country,’’ he said. (NAN)
