Akure – The Ondo State Government has advised the people of the state to be proactive in containing the reported cases of yellow fever across the country.
Dr Wahab Adegbenro, the state Commissioner for Health, gave the advice in a statement on Thursday in Akure.
According to him, the spread of the disease calls for serious caution.
The commissioner described yellow fever as a serious viral infection usually transmitted by mosquitoes and could affect all ages.
According to him, its symptoms include fever, body ache, vomiting, yellowness of the eyes and bleeding in serious cases.
Adegbenro urged Nigerians to maintain proper hygiene in their environment and ensure the use of mosquito nets.
He urged Nigerians to be vigilant and report to the nearest hospital when any report of the symptoms was observed.
Adegbenro also urged health workers to be alert and investigate all feverish cases while alerting the appropriate authorities when there was any suspected case.
