Okene – Gov. Yahaya Bello on Sunday called on prominent personalities to desist from inciting the public against the authorities, saying those in leadership position were doing their best to move the country forward.
Bello who made the call while speaking with newsmen after performing his Eid-el-kabir prayers in his country home, Okene, said elder statesmen should give peace a chance in the interest of the country.
He said the present administration was committed to moving the country forward in all sectors, as such needed the support of all and sundry.
“The President is doing his best and there is need for Nigerians to give him total support; we are not unaware that there are challenges but gradually, he will surmount them”, Bello assured .
On the forthcoming Nov. 16, Governorship Election in the state, the governor appealed to politicians, aspirants and their supporters, to conduct their campaigns peacefully, and in a manner that would not impede peaceful coexistence.
“I am appealing to my teeming supporters that this is democracy ; it has become expedient for politicians to challenge me in an election and that should not be seen as an offence.
“Those challenging me in the forthcoming APC primaries should be given an equal opportunity to contest .
“As a responsible government,the security of lives and property is our priority and we will extend it to all aspirants,” he said, warning. that whoever indulged in political violence would face the full wrath of the law.
Earlier in his sermon, the Acting Chief Imam of Ebiraland, Alhaji Salihu Abere, had cautioned Muslims against making inflammatory statements capable of causing disharmony in the Central Senatorial District.
He called on people to be prayerful at all times, saying it was only through prayers that they could enjoy God’s mercy.
