The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that all the courts in the state were under lock and key on Tuesday.
The Benue JUSUN Acting Chairman, Mr Samuel Wuaor, told NAN that the strike was in compliance with the directive of JUSUN in Abuja that every court should be shut down.
He said the strike was total as the judiciary management staff were not allowed to work.
NAN reports that the strike was to compel the 36 state governors to implement the rule on the financial autonomy of the judiciary in the states.
Wuaor said there was no going back on the strike, and all activities at the judiciary would remain grounded for now.
“It will be in place until the governors rescind their decision, which is against financial autonomy for the judiciary,’’ he said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
The acting chairman called on all judicial staff to strictly comply with the strike.
He however warned that anyone who disobeyed the strike order would be appropriately dealt with by the Judicial Monitoring and Compliance Team.
Also, a former Nigeria Bar Association Chairman (NBA) in Benue, Mr Titus Hyundu, called on Federal and states governments to ensure the strike was ended.
“The governments should obey the court directive to help in alleviating the sufferings of those awaiting trials in prisons,’’ he said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
