Makurdi – The Benue House of Assembly says it is prepared to assist the Government to tackle the spate of assassinations in the State.
The Speaker of the House, Mr Terkimbi Ikyange, made the remark during Valedictory Session in honour of former legislator, Mr Atoza Hindan, in Makurdi on Friday.
Hindan, who was murdered in his home in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of the state, was a two-time member of the assembly between 1979 and 1983.
The speaker rued the death which he said had depleted the ranks of senior colleagues and hampered growth and development of the legislature.
He enjoined his colleagues to strive harder to live lasting legacies behind.
A member, Ianna Jato, described the deceased as a social crusader who always stood for truth and fair play.
Jato said Hindan, a Tiv, declined nomination for deputy speaker then, to accommodate the Idoma minority tribe as Tiv was Speaker.

“Hindan said it would be right for the positions to be shared for equity. This arrangement has come to stay with us in Benue.’’
Another member, Mr Audu Sule, urged security agencies to fish out the killers of the ex-assemblyman, saying they should not go unpunished.
Assemblyman Terhemba Chaboor described the deceased as an embodiment of humility and love.
Former Speaker of the assembly, Mr Mzenda Iho, urged the legislators to proffer solution that could put a stop to incessant killings in the state. (NAN)
