Berlin – Berlin will host a second marathon next year with a race in May to raise money for refugee aid, organisers said on Wednesday.
The Freedom Marathon Berlin will take place on May 15 as part of the annual BIG 25 race event, starting from the Olympic Stadium and covering the city’s traditional half-marathon circuit twice.
The 43rd annual Berlin Marathon will take place on Sept. 25.
Entry fees and other runner sponsoring for the May event will go toward refugee projects, organisers Golazo Sports GmbH said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
The event will see races over the marathon, half marathon, 25-kilometre and 10-kilometre distances. Up to 12,000 runners have taken part in previous BIG 25 events.
Last year’s Berlin Marathon through the streets of the German capital and finishing at Brandenburg Gate attracted 58,776 entrants over various distances including 41,227 for the marathon itself.
