ABUJA – Mr. Hudu Yunusa Ari, the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner has been placed on indefinite suspension by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Yunusa Ari stirred controversy on Sunday morning when he announced Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the Adamawa State supplementary governorship election when collation of results was still ongoing, an action that amounted to usurpation of the duty of the Returning Officer.
INEC in a letter signed by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, secretary to the Commission, directed the Adamawa REC to hand over to the administrative secretary of the commission in the state
“I hereby convey the Commission’s decision that you (Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Adamawa State should stay away from the Commission’s office in Adamawa State immediately until further notice.
“The Administrative Secretary has been directed to take full charge of INEC, Adamawa State with immediate effect.
“Please, accept the assurances of the Commission’s warm.”
