Lagos – The Nigeria Taekwondo Black Belt College (NTBBC) on Friday donated a cheque of N200,000 to the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) to support its preparations for the 2016 Olympic Games.

George Ashiru, the NTBBC President who presented the cheque in Lagos, said the idea behind the donation was to assist taekwondoists and technical officials through the NTF.

“This is to assist them through the NTF, so as to bring out their best at the camp,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presentation took place at the Federation’s secretariat at the National Stadium.

“We know that it is necessary for athletes and officials to get maximum care in the course of their preparations, feed well, get good medical care and accommodation.

“We are one big family and this is an opportunity to, in anticipation, identify with the NTF as they commence preparations for the Olympic Games.

“The NTBBC is impressed with performances of the athletes at the African Games held in 2015 and now that the Olympics is coming up, we are showing our support,’’ Ashiru said.

Sunny Obot, the NTF Secretary who received the cheque on behalf of the Federation, applauded the NTBBC for the contribution.

“On behalf of the NTF, I want to say that we are happy with this support from the NTBBC and for this tremendous financial assistance. I must say we feel encouraged,’’ he said.

Obot said the support would go a long way in assisting the body to tidy up arrangements for the proposed national camping of the athletes and technical officials.

The NTF official said the Federation had concluded arrangements to invite to camp eight taekwondoists, made up of four male and four female.(NAN)
