Lokoja – Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), on Wednesday said it would blacklist any contractor who executed shoddy jobs.
Malam Nuhu Ahmed, the Executive Secretary of the board, gave the warning in Lokoja during the opening of bids for N1.7 billion basic education projects.
Ahmed said the bids were for award of contracts for construction of classroom blocks, boreholes, furniture and renovation of dilapidated infrastructure.
He said the era of shoddy jobs by contractors in the state was gone for good.
Ahmed stressed that any contractor who performed poorly or failed to meet specifications would be blacklisted, adding that any contractor blacklisted would also forfeit his money to the state.
He said government had provided environment conducive for contractors to execute quality jobs.
Ahmed said that the state had set up a Monitoring Committee comprising officials from the board, Federal Auditor General’s Office as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to enforce compliance.
“The state has contributed N852 million while the federal government also contributed N852 million for the projects.
“We decided to embark on open bidding because Gov. Idris Wada believes in transparency and due process”, he said.
Ahmed also said that the jobs, in four categories, are scheduled to be completed within eight weeks. (NAN)
