JOS – The National Films and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), has promised to encourage the production of children friendly movies in the country.
The North Central Coordinator of the board, Mr Ailewon Danlami, made the promise during a media forum in Jos on Friday.
He explained that this would help to checkmate obscene movies being churned out by unlicensed producers.
Danlami said the contents, lyrics and pictures of obscene movies send wrong messages that can impact negatively on children.
Danlami said the board had mapped out public enlightenment programme to correct such anomalies. [eap_ad_1] According to Danlami, the board will take its enlightenment campaigns to parents and the communities to sensitise them on the need to monitor what their children watch and what they take home.
Danlami said the board was on the verge of reactivating its media unit to make its regulatory function become more effective in the zone.
The coordinator added that the board was seeking the partnership of the media and the local government areas to carry out the campaigns at the grassroots.
“Besides the campaign, the board will also embark on enforcement of its regulatory functions by seizing and destroying such unlicensed works.
“The board is already armed with a list of registered video outlets in the state.’’
He, however, added that lack of adequate manpower was hindering the board’s enforcement process in the zone. (NAN)
