Board urges Nigerians to promote tourism

ABUJA- Mr Tony Nzekwe, the General Manager of Enugu State Tourism Board, on Thursday reiterated call on stakeholders to strengthen tourism industry to promote socio-economic development.
“Tourism is a rapidly growing phenomenon and has become one of the largest industries in the world,’’ Nzekwe noted in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday.
“It is a tool to create jobs and offers new employment opportunities.’’
The general manager said tourism played positive role in the socio-economic and political development in destination countries.
“We must all work together to promote tourism as an alternative strategy for sustainability and diversification of the economy.
“Over-concentration on oil sector has profound implications for the economy,’’ the general manager said.
He therefore stressed the need to promote tourism and sustain the current government transformation in the agriculture sector.
Nzekwe called on wealthy Nigerians to invest in tourism. (NAN)
