Maiduguri – The Borno Government on Friday donated 10 Toyota Hilux vehicles to the Nigerian Army as part of its support toward ending the Boko Haram insurgency.
Gov. Kashim Shettima presented the vehicles to Brig.-Gen. Victor Ezugwu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army at a ceremony in Maiduguri.
Shettima, represented by Mr Kakashehu Lawan, the state Commissioner of Justice, said the gesture was in appreciation of the numerous sacrifice of the military toward ending the Boko Haram terrorism.
“I am here today to present 10 Toyota Hilux vehicles to you on behalf of Gov. Kashim Shettima to assist in cushioning the effect and challenges of transportation in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists, especially in the Hinterland.
“Shettima would have loved to present the vehicles personally but for some exigencies of work,”he said.
“The Governor has also asked me to congratulate you on your numerous successes in recapturing Allagarno, Kala-Balge and other strongholds of the terrorists.
“These successes are an indication of the renewed zeal toward ending terrorism,” the governor said.
Responding, Ezugwu thanked the state government for the donation and promised judicious use of the vehicles.
He said the military had almost cleared all the Boko Haram camps in both Borno South and Central zone.
“The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army has cleared all Boko Haram camps in Born South and Central zones. The 8 Division is clearing the camps in Borno North.
“Very soon, we will clear all the terrorists camps in the North-East, so that we can go to sleep with our eyes closed ,” he said.
The GOC renewed calls on all Boko Haram terrorists foot soldiers wishing to surrender, to do so, as the doors were open.
“All those wishing to surrender should approach any of our Commands.
“I wish to assure them that they have nothing to fear as they will be treated well,” Ezugwu said.(NAN)
