MAIDUGURI – The North-East Zonal Office of National Emergency Management Agency said at least five people have died following suspected cholera outbreak at the Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDP) camp in Biu Local Government Area of Borno.
A statement issued by the Information Officer, Malam Abdulkadir Ibrahim in Maiduguri on Saturday noted that NEMA had already activated its Search And Rescue Epidemic Response Plan ( SAREEP) at the camp to prevent further death. “The MSF had also donated some drugs and disinfectants to complement the drugs already provided by NEMA and other donors,’’ the Agency said.
It added that “additional pit latrines and a clinic have been erected in the camp to decongest the existing facilities.
“Some leaders among the IDPs were also trained on hygiene and sanitation with a view to maintaining clean environment, while safe drinking water was also provided.’’
