ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Brig-Gen. Victor Ezugwu has commended the performance of the troops in the ongoing clearance operations against remnants of Boko Haram Terrorists in the North East.
Ezugwu stated this on Wednesday during his address at Rann, Headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area (LGA), and as well as to the troops of 3 Battalion, Gamboru Ngala, noting his “happiness with the recent performance, in clearing Boko Haram Terrorists”.
The GOC, according to the statement signed yesterday by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations Col. Mustapha Anka, was earlier welcomed by the Commanding Officer of 3 Battalion Lt-Col. Igwe Omoke who briefed the GOC of their arrival to the mission area and achievements within the few days they were inducted into Operation Lafiya Dole, which include the capture of Kala Balga and its environs.
He commended the braveness and gallantry of the officers and soldiers, and assured them of the Division’s adequate logistics and operational support. He also toured the company locations and interacted with the members of the civilian JTF.
Earlier, Ezugwu stopped at the Headquarters of 22 Brigade Dikwa where he was received by the Commander, Brig-Gen. Benjamin Sawyer. The GOC also inspected the Quarter Guard and was given a detailed brief on the arrival of the formation into the Theatre of Operation Lafiya Dole and its achievements, since arrival in the mission area, within the period of 9 days.
He used the forum to appreciate the troops on their successes since arrival and promised to provide the unit with necessary logistics, equipment and purposeful leadership.
Also, Ezugwu’s tour from Gamboru Ngala to Kala Balge witnessed arousing welcome by hundreds of villagers and town dwellers along the way.
Expressing magnanimity and love for the locals, the GOC, stopped at Wumbi town to interact with locals, who commended, the President Muhammadu Buhari, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, the Nigerian Army and the entire troops of Operation Lafiya Dole for routing and clearing insurgents in their area.
He assured that a company from the Battalion will be deployed to safeguard the lives and property of the citizenry, within and around the general area.
In a similar development, the GOC paid an operational visit to the Headquarters 21 Brigade Bama, where he was received by the newly posted in Commander, Col. Adamu Laka.
During the visit to Bama, the GOC and entourage toured the frontlines of Ngurosoye, Banki Junction and Konduga where he urged the troops to remain committed in the noble course.
He thereafter proceeded to Alau Dam where he inspected the newly acquired Gunboats. The visit to Alau Dam witnessed a Gunboat ride round the Dam, meant to ensure safety of the entire general area of the Dam.
In another development, the GOC hosted a batch of British Liaison Support Team, headed by Colonel Brown that just completed their tour of duty.
Ezugwu also commended the British Liaison Support Team for their technical assistance in the fight against insurgency in the North East.
He thanked Col Brown and his team for their cooperation and support throughout the tour of duty and wished them a safe trip back to United Kingdom.
