The federal government has been urged to tread cautiously on the involvement of American marines and other military personnel in tackling the Boko Haram insurgency to avoid escalation of the crisis.
This warning is contained in a statement by the United Nigerians Forum (UNF) signed by its Convener, Umar Farouk, who also said that the quest by Nigeria to find the over 200 abducted Chibok school girls should not make it loose its guard on the nation’s sovereignty.
The United States of America had offered to assist Nigeria in the search and rescue of the girls who were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents almost four weeks ago.
“While we remain deeply concerned about this gut- wrenching situation of the abducted girls and therefore would welcome whatever genuine assistance possible that would ensure their safe return to their families, some of such assistance should be taken with some skepticism and not taken literally. For example, with the coming of the marines, many questions are begging for answers, who are the American Hostage Negotiators going to negotiate with?,” the group asked.
The statement said Nigeria must be wary of assistance from a country like America whose survival, “according to a Prof. of Mathematics, Dr. Leonard Shilgba, rests firmly on their ability to successfully manipulate world affairs including engineering false wars; control and distribution of needed resources such as oil around the world.” (Daily Trust)
