JEGA (Kebbi State) – The Jega Local Government Area in Kebbi has received 130 people who fled from Boko Haram attacks in Borno State.
Chairman of Jega local government area, Alhaji Haruna Haruna, received the refugees who are mostly indigenes of Kebbi state.
Haruna told newsmen in Jega on Tuesday that the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) would be reunited with their families.
He said the IDPs arrived in Jega enroute Maiyama, Bunza and Argungu local government areas, adding that none of them was from Jega local government area.
He said the IDPs were given temporary shelter – food and medical care, pending when they would be reunited with their families.
He said the IDPs had been subjected to rigorous screening by security agencies and medical personnel to ensure that they were not threats to the society.
He emphasised that the medical checkup was done to ascertain their health status.
He commended the people of the area for complementing the efforts of government in providing clothes, food, drinking water and medicaments to the people. [eap_ad_1] The District Head of Jega, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, called on the general public to be vigilant by reporting any suspicious stranger to the appropriate authorities.
He also urged his subjects to continue to pray for peace in the country as nothing was impossible for God.
Malam Musa Muhammad, who spoke on behalf of the IDPs, said most of them left Doron-Baga area of Borno state.
“We were chased out of our towns and villages by the insurgents. I lost contact with some members of my family, especially my nine children as I managed to escape with only their mother.
Musa said he lived in Borno for 30 years. “I have no option other than to leave.’’ (NAN)
