ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Nigerian military has confirmed the successful liberation of Mongonu, Marte and other surrounding communities in Borno State, and as well as the continued mop-up operations.
The Director of Defence Information (DDI), Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade in a statement on Monday announced that the mission in the strategic towns have been completed.
“Troops in a military operation spearheaded by highly coordinated air assaults have completed the mission of clearing terrorists from Monguno and environs this morning”, Olukolade said.
According to the Defence spokesman, a number of terrorists as well as truck loads of rice, beans and other logistics meant foe resupply to the terrorists operating around Baga have been captured in the course of operation.
He said that the “casualty inflicted and arms recovered as well as other outcome of the operation in Munguno, Marte and other communities already secured, will be determined after the ongoing cordon and search in the environs”.

Olukolade also assured that “the air and land operation is continuing with aggressive advance towards other designated communities and locations meant to be cleared in the ongoing offensive against the terrorists”.
A military source told Sundiata Post that the next target to be liberated from the terrorists are Bama, Baga and the surrounding communities where intense battle is going on.
The source assured that in few days to come the reality of the battle would be clearer but insisted that “the terrorists are on the retreat. They are being squeezed out from both sides and in disarray in other areas with our coalition forces approaching from the boundary areas up north”.
