Nigeria on Monday blamed the continued insurgency in the country to lack of adequate cooperation by neighbouring countries in the West African sub-region as partly responsible for the initial difficulties in combating activities of Boko Haram insurgents in North Eastern Nigeria.

This view was expressed by the Senior Special Assistant to the president on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, while featuring on a CNBC television interview programme in London.
According to Okupe, insurgents had exploited the vast mountainous borders between Nigeria and some of her neighbouring countries to plan their onslaught against civilian population and also take the same route to escape immediately after each attack.
