Boko Haram: Nigerian Army Opens Media Centre In Maiduguri

MAIDUGURI (Sundiata Post) – The Nigerian Army in its effort to keep the public well informed about its counter insurgency operations in the northeast of the country, has established a Media Centre in Maiduguri. It is called Operation Lafiya Dole.
The Media Coordinator of Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Tukur Gusau, in a statement on Thursday, said that the media centre was established on the directive of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Tukur Yusuf  Buratai.
Gusau said that the aim of establishing the media centre was to provide real time and accurate information and to provide avenue for a better interaction with the media particularly on Military operations in the North East.
Also addressing the journalists during the commissioning of the centre, the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Yusha’u Mahmood Abubakar represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, urged the journalists to use the media centre to clear areas they are in doubt instead of relying on unknown sources to get information on the Operations.

Abubakar also extol on the role of the media in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.  He described the media as key partner in the ongoing efforts of ending Terrorism in Nigeria.
The Theatre Commander thanked all the media organisations for educating and informing the populace about the happenings in the theatre of operation.
