Maiduguri – The Borno government says it has completed 65 projects in the last one year in some council areas ravaged by insurgency in the state.
The state Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Engr. Mustafa Gubio, made this known on Tuesday in Maiduguri, while briefing newsmen on the activities of the ministry in the last one year.
Gubio said that the projects were executed in 22 out of the 27 local government areas of the state.
He, however, said that that projects could not be executed in the remaining five local government areas of Guzamala, Abadam, Kukawa, Mobbar and Gubio due to the current security challenges.
The commissioner listed some of the projects to include 500 housing units in Damboa, 200 housing units in Chibok, General Hospital in Ngamdu, market stalls in Tungushe and a local education authority office complex in Biu.
Others, he said, were a traditional ruler’s palace in Bayo, police station in Kwaya-Kusar, 50 junior staff quarters in the University of Maiduguri and some places of worship in Biu.
According to Gubio, some of the eight ongoing projects include 500 housing units in Ajiri, 1,500 housing units in Monguno, 400 housing units in Koibe, 300 housing units in Warabe, an auditorium in the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and 500 housing units in Marte.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Housing and Energy, Engr. Saleh Yuguda, said that his ministry had secured an owner-occupier approval for 2,778 units of houses in five estates within Maiduguri, adding that 25 percent of the occupants had paid.
On electricity, Yuguda said that about eight electrification projects had been completed in Chibok, Damboa and Hawul council areas.
“We also installed some 500 KVA transformers and solar streetlights in some wards and estates in Maiduguri,” Yuguda said.
