PMAIDUGIRI – Coach Ladan Bosso of El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club of Maiduguri on Saturday said his team was optimistic of picking a continental ticket at the end of the current season.

Bosso, while speaking at the post-match conference after his team beat visiting Ikorodu United FC of Ikorodu 1-0, said the club’s return to its home Maiduguri would enhance this.

He said returning to Maiduguri had further boosted his morale towards attaining the goal.

“Compared to what we had in Katsina, there is now a difference. For example, we won our first two matches in Maiduguri.

“In Katsina, we played three matches without winning even one. It means coming back to Maiduguri is a good blessing for us,” Bosso said.

He said his club wanted to make a good use of this advantage by playing well so that they could achieve something at the end of the season.

“My personal target is to get a continental ticket and we are not far from it,’’ the coach said.

He however pointed out that their owner state government still needed to contribute its quota for success to be achieved.

“All what I am praying for now is for the Borno government to be up and doing.

“I think we are not too far from the continental ticket.’’

Speaking on the Match Day 13 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture, Bosso said the match against Ikorodu United was difficult.

“It was a very difficult match and that was what I discussed with the players before the match.

“I told them not to take chances, because the worst team can end up suprising one. But I thank God that we won,” he said.

The match’s lone goal was scored by Ibrahim Mustapha who converted a penalty kick in the 24th minute.(NAN)
