ABUJA – Some football enthusiasts on Monday in Abuja said the Super Eagles still have room for improvement in order to excel at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.
Nigeria claimed a 1-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday in their second Group F match at the Arena Pantanal, Cuiaba in Brazil.
The victory, coming after their June 16 goalless draw with Iran in their first game at Curitaba, ensured they now have four points from two matches.
They face Argentina in their final Group F clash on Wednesday, needing a draw at least to advance to the Round of 16.
Speaking in separate interviews with NAN, the football enthusiasts said the Eagles need to press harder in order to make a name for themselves at the mundial.
Owen Ike, an Abuja-based model, said the team needs to improve on its attacking department as it is presently poor.
“The Eagles on Saturday luckily escaped another draw, because their attacking force was poor and weak. The team would have recorded more goals if their attacking line was active.
“So, the Eagles should play more as a team, instead of a group of players with individual brilliance. They should also avoid massively defending and introduce the 4-4-2 formation,’’ he said.
Ike however expressed the hope that the Nigerian team would defeat Argentina.
Johnson Musa, a policeman, said the team improved their game against Bosnia-Herzegovina, but needs to put more effort in order to defeat Argentina.
“The team did better than what we saw against Iran. But they need to put more effort to defeat Argentina, in order to qualify for the second round.
“I am very happy with what players like Osaze Odemwingie, Emmanuel Emenike and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama did.
“If the other players can press on like them, then they will beat Argentina. Otherwise, there is no hope for us,’’ Musa added.
An artist, Charles Egbule, lauded the Super Eagles for their performance against Bosnia-Herzegovina, saying they had improved from their first group match.
“The Eagles are a team which grows with every match. They played better than what they did in their first group match.
“They should be more aggressive in their attacking and speed, because Argentina will be a hard nut to crack,’’ Egbule said.
Calistus Okoli, a student, said there was a great improvement in the team, saying they played with determination to win on Saturday.
“The team greatly improved in Saturday’s match because they played with determination. They should also improve more in order to beat Argentina,’’ he said.(NAN)
