Portuguese fans got a bit of good news on Saturday after the country’s FA confirmed that the duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul Meireles joined the rest of the team in training earlier in the day.
Ronaldo has been struggling with tendinosis in his left knee, as well as a thigh injury which has kept him out of the team’s warm up games since joining the squad last week. The situation has made observers to suggest that the Real Madrid ace will not be fit to feature in Portugal’s opening game against Germany.
Former Liverpool midfielder, Raul Meireles on his part had been struggling with a muscular problem but it seems he too has recovered in time to fully take part in Portugal’s opening game.
“Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul Meireles integrated with the remaining group of players,” a statement made public by the Portuguese FA reads.
The FA also confirmed that Real Madrid defender, Pepe is also making progress in his race to be fit for the country’s World Cup opener.
“Pepe is carrying out his rehabilitation and sport specific exercises in the field individually,” the statement concludes.
