Ife (Osun) – An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Friday remanded seven alleged cultists in prison over alleged breach of public peace.
The defendants are Abdulrasak Sodiq, 20; Peter Kayode, 27; Oyeyemi Akeem, 30; Adeyele Adekunle, 36; Ojikutu Taiwo, 30; Joseph Godwin, 30 and Ogbekah Goddey, 45
Magistrate Olukunle Owolawin, who remanded the defendants in Ile-Ife Prisons, adjourned the case till June 17 for ruling on their bail applications.
The defendants had pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace and unlawful patronage.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Monday Ojiezele, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Friday at 05:30 a.m. at Nonso Brotel, Obalufon Area, Ile-Ife.
Ojiezele said the defendants had gathered with the intent to cause fear and disturb the peace of their neighborhood.
He added that the defendants presented themselves as a member of a secret cult called “Eye Confraternity” .
According to him, the offence contravened Sections 62, 64, 69, 70 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Bolaji Adewale, had urged the court to grant his clients bail in most liberal terms, promising that they would not jump bail.
