President Muhammad Buhari has condoled the family of the late board member of the Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC, Alhaji Mukhtari Zimit describing him as a statesman.
Delivering the condolence message at the residence of the late board member, the federal government delegation was led by the Vice Chairman of the NCC, Professor Umar Dambatta who delivered the message on behalf of the federal government.
Addressing newsmen at the residence of late Zimit in Kano, Dambatta attributed the reform experienced by the NCC in the last twenty years to the contributions of the board which he is part of.
“This is the residence of the late Alh Mukhtari Zimit who passed away. To many who may not know, Alhaji Mukhtari Zimit was a one time member of the governing board of the Nigerian Communication Commission.
“He served the commission at the board level meritoriously for 11 years. So it is befitting now that he is deceased, that the Commission, under the directive of the honorable minister of communication, under the directive of the president and commander in chief of the federation, Muhammdu Buhari, to come and condole the family of the late Alh Mukhtari Zimit.
“The main reason of our being here is to come and condole the family of the late Alh Mukhtari Zimit” the Vice Chairman said.
“As you are aware the board is the policy organ of the Nigerian Communication Commission. So all the transformation you have seen in the Nigerian Communication Commission over the past 20 years were as a result of the hardwork that the board of the NCC put in place during the tenure of Mukhtari Zimit. Indeed the commission has lost a very dear friend and a very important personality who saw and participated in the important part that culminated in the culmination of the communication industry in general in the country.
On the goodwill of the federal government to the bereaved family, Dambatta explained that the NCC will certainly do something to immortalise the late Zimit while it offered N2m to the family.
“The board will decide on what it will do to immortalise him, I don’t want to preempt on that.
The board of the Nigerian Communication Commission has that tradition of giving donation to families of the deceased and is being done in this case with the donation of N2m” he stated.
