Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in an early morning fire that consumed houses in the Dosumu area of Idumota, Lagos Island.
The fire which allegedly started from the second floor of a four-storey building later spread to four others.
One of the affected buildings had allegedly collapsed while emergency workers from both the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA,) Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and fire fighters are currently battling with fire.
Policemen from both Adeniji police station and Lion building have cordoned off the area to prevent urchins from stealing victims’ belongings.
An unconfirmed report has it that sone of persons sustained fire burns while trying to salvage their belongings.
Territorial Coordinator of NEMA in the South-West Region, Ibrahim Farinloye, said emergency workers were having serious challenges over scarcity of water.
“Fire trucks go as far as Guinness to source for water. Three pieces of four storey buildings and one of five Storey building are engulfed in the fire. One of the 4 storey building collapsed under the intensity of the fire,” he said
