DAMATURU- The African Housing Awards has named Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe as housing friendly governor of the year.
This is contained in a statement by Buni’s Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed in Damaturu on Friday.
The Africa Housing Awards is an annual event in recognition of individuals and organisations who performed exceptionally well in the housing sector.
Mohammed said a letter conveying the organisation’s decision indicated that the governor emerged as the winner following online voting on its portal and subsequent screening by panel of judges.
“The Africa Housing Awards is an annual event that celebrates and promotes excellence in the housing and construction industry. It also recognises the success of firms, individuals and teams,” he quoted the letter as saying.
He said the Buni-led administration had constructed over 2,000 housing units, the single largest housing intervention in the over 40 years history of the state.
Mohammed noted that while presenting the 2023 budget to the state House of assembly in November, Buni also announced a 50 per cent subsidy to all beneficiaries of the newly built houses.
“Workers, pensioners and other categories of beneficiaries had commended the governor for his magnanimity and making them proud house owners,” he said.
Mohammed said the award would be presented to the governor at an elaborate ceremony scheduled for Dec. 15.(NAN)
