Burial of NAF officers takes-off in Abuja

The burial ceremony of seven Airforce Officers who died on Sunday has commenced at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.

The officers were crew members of the ill-fated Beechcraft King Air 350 that crashed at Bassa village near the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport while on a reconnaissance mission to Niger State.


The deceased were the Captain, Fl Lt. Haruna Gadzama; Fl. Lt. Henry Piyo (Co-Pilot); Flying Officer Micheal Okpara (Airborne Tactical Observation System Specialist); Warrant Officer Bassey Etim (ATOS Specialist); Fl. Sgt. Olasunkanmi Olawunmi (ATOS Specialist); Sgt. Ugochukwu Oluka (ATOS Specialist) and Aircraftman Adewale Johnson (Onboard Technician).


Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi (Rtd); Service Chiefs led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Lucky Irabor; family members of the deceased and military men are present at the cemetery for the ceremony.

The coffins draped in the Nigerian flags have already been placed on the open graves. Sitting on each coffin were the shoes and caps of the deceased.
