Burkina Faso postpones repatriation of Air Algeria crash victims’ remains

OUAGADOUGOU – Repatriation of the remains of 28 Burkinabes who perished in Air Algeria’s flight AH5017 crash, initially scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed to Jan. 13, an official source has said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Air Algeria flight AH5017, leaving Ouagadougou on July 24, 2014, crashed less than an hour after taking off due to a thunderstorm.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
The plane’s wreckage found in Malian territory by Burkina Faso army had completely disintegrated.
Out of the 116 passengers who lost their lives, there were 28 Burkinabes and 54 French nationals.

The regime of Burkina Faso’s ex-President Blaise Compaore planned a commemorative ceremony in the northern region of Dori November 2014 in memory of the victims.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
A statue in memory of the victims near the Ouagadougou International Airport was also erected.
Compaore was forced to resign in October last year after popular protests. (Xinhua/NAN)
