Bujumbura -Burundi’s President, Pierre Nkurunziza, on Tuesday, said the government would not take part in the peace talk with the opposition scheduled for Wednesday.

Joseph Bangurambona, the Permanent Secretary in Burundi’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Bujumbura, adding that “President Nkurunziza has fresh doubts on efforts to end months of violence in the country.”

The talk in neighbouring Tanzania was announced last month as part of regional efforts to resolve the crisis triggered by President Nkurunziza’s decision to run for a third term in office, a move which the opposition said was against the country’s constitution.

However, Nkurunziza had insisted that “No dialogue tomorrow neither on Jan. 16 as many may think, because there has been no consensus on that date.” (Reuters/NAN)
