LAGOS – A 27-year old businessman, Chukwuma Oluwasegun, on Wednesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos charged with assaulting a filing station manager and stealing N180,000.
Oluwasegun, who resides at Plot 1, Paul Anabor St., Sangotedo, Ajah, Lagos, is facing charges of conspiracy, assault occasioning harm and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, SP. Augustine Orji, told the court that the businessman committed the offences with others still at large at midnight on Dec. 9 at the NIPPCO Station on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Ajah, Lagos.
He said Oluwasegun and his accomplices assaulted the manager of the filling station, one Afolabi Muniru, by slapping him repeatedly in the face and punching him.
Orji said that the accused also stole N180,000, which was part of the sale proceeds of the filling station for that day.
The prosecutor said that the businessman had earlier during the day, patronised the filling station before coming back at midnight to assault and steal from the manager.
According to him, the offences are contrary to Sections 170, 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 170 stipulates three years imprisonment for anyone found guilty of assault.
The Magistrate, Mrs Salama Matepo, granted the accused N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Feb. 2, 2015 for mention. (NAN)
