Kano – A 35-year-old car dealer, Yusuf Jibrin, was on Friday arraigned before a Kano Senior Magistrates’ Court over alleged N1.2 million fraud.
Jubrin, a resident of Rijiyar Zaki area of Kano, is standing trial on two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecutor, Insp. Umar Tahir, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in September at Waika Waje Quarters, Kano.
Tahir said that the accused persons entered an agreement to sell a car to the complainant but defaulted in the process.
“The complainant gave the defendant the sum of N430,000 and a Honda Civic car valued at N800,000 with an agreement to buy him another car.
“The defendant converted the money and the said car for his personal use, and failed to fulfill the agreement,” he said.
Tahir said that the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The trial judge, Magistrate Musa Umar admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Umar said that one of the sureties must be a civil servant, and not below Grade Level 10, while the other should be a responsible citizen with a landed property in Kano.
He adjourned the case to Sept. 13 for mention.
