ABUJA – The police on Thursday arraigned a 52-year-old businessman, Abubakar Hussein of Federal Housing Authority, Lugbe, Abuja, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court for defrauding a man of N7 million.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Francis Tanko, said that on June 9, Abubakar Bako of No 30, Oran Street, Wuse Zone 1, Abuja, reported the accused at the Wuse Zone 3 Police Station.
Tanko said: “Bako filed a report that sometime in December 2013, he entrusted the accused with a document for a 1,000 square metre plot of land located in Dape district, Abuja.’’
Tanko also told the court that Bako entrusted the documents with the accused to help him sell the land valued at N7 million.
He said that the accused absconded with the land papers and was nowhere to be found until he was arrested on June 9.
Tanko said that during police investigation, the accused could not give a satisfactory account of himself and the whereabout of the land papers.
According to the prosecutor, the accused is standing trial for the offences of criminal breach of trust and criminal trespass which contravene the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The magistrate, Mrs Chinyere Nwacheonu, granted him bail for N200,000 with one reliable surety in like sum who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She added that the surety must be a businessman dealing in furniture, fabrics and electronics.
