Kaduna, – A 42-year-old businessman, William Sunday, was on Thursday docked in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna State for allegedly being in possession of fake N1,000 notes worth N200,000.
The police charged Sunday, whose address was not provided iwith two counts of possession of counterfeit notes with intent to cheat and causing wrongful loss.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo, said Sunday committed the offence on Nov. 2 at about 8.50 a.m at the Central Market Kaduna.
Leo told the court that the defendant went to the market to purchase some goods and paid the complainant, Joy Samuel the fake notes mixed with real notes.
The prosecutor said the complainant, who identified the counterfeits, raised an alarm which led to the arrest of the defendant.
Leo said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 134 and 372 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, gadmitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Emmanuel ordered that the sureties must be blood relations to defendant who must be verified by the court’s registrar.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 30 for hearing. (NAN)
