Abuja, – A Businessman, Sani Bakori, was on Thursday docked in an Upper Area Court, Karu, Abuja, for allegedly receiving 1,000 bags of stolen fertilizer
The police charged Bakori, who lives in No. 39 Kakumi road, Kastina State with receiving stolen property.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Edwin Ochayi, told the court that in June, the defendant received 1,000 bags of fertiliser known to be a stolen Property through Emmanuel Obiora of No. 16, John Auta Street, Sabo, Kaduna from Spring Field Fertilizer Limited.
He said the fertiliser was worth N24.3 million.
The prosecutor said the matter was reported at the Karu Police Station, Abuja.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 319 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Malam Hassan Mohammed, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N25 million with two sureties in like some.
Mohammed ordered that the sureties must live within court jurisdiction and address of the sureties must be verified by court officer and Police Officer.
The judge also ordered that one of the sureties must be a GL15 officer in the civil service, first appointment letter, last appointment letter, promotion letter and national ID card must be submitted at the court.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 3, for hearing. (NAN
