Businessman donates N14.4m , food items to IDPs

Sokoto – The Chairman, Erisco Tomatoes Company Ltd., Mr Eric Omafaya, has donated N 14.4 million and food items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Omafaya presented the money and food items to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar in Sokoto on Friday.

He said that N3.4 million would be for the sponsorship of four IDPs to Saudi Arabia for the 2015 pilgrimage, while one million naira was for the IDPs upkeep.

The Erisco chairman said that the remaining N10 million was for the building of two Mosques in Sokoto and Kano States.

Omafaya also handed over articulate vehicle filled with rice, tomatoes paste and soft drinks to the sultan for distribution to the IDPs.

He said that the donation was aimed at easing the plight of the IDPs and to show appreciation to government’s commitments to end people’s suffering in the country.

“I have returned to my state to show my appreciation to the people and the Sultanate council for the blessing I have gained throughout my stay in Sokoto,’’ he said.

The sultan, who expressed appreciation, urged other wealthy people to emulate Omofaya, with a view to fostering national unity.

Abubakar described the donor as the “real son of the state’’, and assured him that the items would be distributed to the IDPs.

He urged Nigerians to respect one another irrespective of their religious or ethnic differences.

The Chairman of the State Zakkat and Endowment Committee, Alhaji Lawal Maidoki, urged wealthy Muslims to give out Zakkat and Endowment to reduce the suffering of the needy in the country. (NAN)
