LAGOS – A 38-year-old businessman who allegedly obtained N700, 000 by pretext from another man, to obtain a Malaysian visa for him, on Wednesday appeared before a Somolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, Adebayo Folarin, who resides at 7, Akinrinmola St., Ladilak, Somolu, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and obtaining by false pretences.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, told the court that the defendant had on March 10 at 8:00 a.m., obtained the sum of N700,000 from one Mr Patrick Durojaiye, under the guise that he would obtain a Malaysian visa for him.
“Folarin was introduced to the complainant by a mutual friend, who claimed to have recently obtained visas through him.
“Folarin, thereafter, requested for N700,000 from Durojaiye, which the accused collected on March 10.
“Folarin, however, absconded with the money and failed to produce a Malaysian visa, as promised.
“He was apprehended after some residents of the area gave the police a tip-off, after all initial efforts to retrieve the amount from him had proved abortive,” Adegoke said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 278, 311 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Folarin, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Dec. 5, for hearing.(NAN)
