Lagos – The Delta State Government in conjunction with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and Soloo Sports Management & Marketing Ltd., would stage a Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) Grand Prix.
The event has been scheduled to hold on May 18 in Warri with the theme: “Inspiring Fresh Speeds of the Baton”.
This is contained in a statement released on Tuesday by Omatseye Nesiama, the Meets Director, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
According to the statement, interested National Federations and Athletes’ Representatives/Managers should send in their entries before April 23.
It said tht the athletes must be in the IAAF top 30.
“The request should indicate the athlete’s details, including IAAF ranking, personal and seasonal best (PBs and SBs) in events entered.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
“The meet organiser in conjunction with the National federation would send letters of invitation to member-federations and managers of athletes selected as confirmed for the meet.”
The statement also noted that athletes placed on stand-by list, would also be communicated to accordingly.
“The meet organiser would be responsible for flight tickets, accommodation and feeding of all athletes confirmed for the meet’’.
It also said that participation in international relays for the men and women categories would be open to countries wishing to improve their rankings ahead of the qualifiers for the 2015 World Championships.
The statement, called on interested countries to confirm their participation in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay events, by April 27.
“This is to enable the meeting organiser to carry out necessary immigration assistance formalities.’’
It notes that medals and prize monies would be presented to the top three finishers in the Nigeria versus the World Relays.
The statement adds: “the Meet organiser will be responsible for all expenses paid trip of two athletes/relay event, while the transportation of the rest members of the team will be the responsibility of the participating country.
“However, the organiser would be responsible for the transportation within Nigeria for the whole of the relay team comprising of a maximum of four athletes per team/relay event and a coach or team official.
“Also, please note that only six lanes are available in each of the relay events and slots would be given out on first come first serve basis,” it said.
The Premium Events (4) are: Men’s- 100m, 400m Women’s- 100m, 400m.
