Kathmandu – Canadian Tourist has died while trekking in a remote region in North-western Nepal, the third Foreign Tourist to have died in the country in the course of a week, Officials said on Thursday.
Abadesh Bista, a police officer in Dolpa district said the 60-year-old Canadian had reached a monastery, which lies 4,310 metres above sea level on Wednesday, when he called authorities for a medical rescue.
“He sent the message late in the morning. The helicopter landed near the monastery only in the afternoon,’’ he said.
Doctors pronounced the man dead after he was rushed to a hospital in Pokhara, a tourist town about 150 kilometres east of the site, said Om Rana, a local police officer.
The cause of the man’s death was not clear, according to the police officer.
A week ago, two Australians, a rafter and a climber, died in two separate accidents in Nepal.
Early this month, three trekkers a French woman, a Malaysian woman and a Japanese man died during their trek in the Everest region.
