LAGOS – A 38-year-old carpenter, Gabriel Francis, was on Friday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged sexual assault on an eight-year-old girl.
Francis of Lawanson Bus Stop, Badore, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of indecent treatment of a child, and sexual assault by penetration.
He, however, denied the charges.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Babaje Ishiaku, told the court that the accused committed the offence on August 3 at Oke Awo Street, Lawanson Bus Stop, Badore, Lagos.
He said that the accused entered the room of the primary four pupil (name withheld) and sexually assaulted her by inserting his fingers into her private part.
[eap_ad_1] Ishiaku said that the minor, however, raised an alarm which alerted her cousin who was also in the house.
According to the prosecutor, the accused was a regular visitor to the home and had previously done carpentry works for the family.
Ishiaku said medical examination on the child revealed that she had lost her virginity due to the assault.
He that the offences violated Sections 135(1) and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 259 stipulates a life sentence for anyone convicted of sexual assault by penetration.
The magistrate, Mrs Linda Balogun, granted a N500,000 bail to the accused with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to Aug. 21 for mention. (NAN)
