Keane, in a sermon during Mass at the Church, decried the treatment some men meted out on girls and women in public and private places.
He said “women are treated as if they are not human beings; we treat them anyhow; it is wrong.
“Every person is equal in the eyes of God; let us treat people with respect and dignity.’’
Reacting to the condemnation by the international community on the abduction of the Chibok school girls by the Boko Haram, the clergyman said the issue of violence against women was a global problem.
Keane also advised women to speak up against ill-treatment and make use of extant laws to fight for their rights and freedom.
The priest reminded husbands to always pray at home with their families to reduce vices in the society.
“Be good shepherds like Christ himself, regardless of who you are or your vocations, etc.,” he said.
The cleric announced that the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Bauchi, comprising both Bauchi and Gombe states, Most Rev. John Malachy-Goltok, had directed Catholics to observe prayers for the rescue of the Chibok girls. (NAN)
