Adefowora Abiodun, one of the individuals declared wanted in connection with the controversial Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX) fraud, has voluntarily surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to Naija News, Abiodun, who had been listed among suspects linked to the fraudulent cryptocurrency investment platform, arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 4 p.m. on Thursday. He was accompanied by his lawyers, family members, and friends.
Abiodun’s decision to turn himself in comes after the EFCC publicly declared four suspects, including him, wanted over a scam that allegedly defrauded investors of more than $1 billion through CBEX.
His surrender follows the recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, where Justice Emeka Nwite granted the EFCC permission to arrest and detain six individuals associated with the scheme. Those named in the court order include Abiodun, Adefowora Oluwanisola, Emmanuel Uko, Seyi Oloyede, Avwerosuo Otorudo, and Chukwuebuka Ehirim.
Justice Nwite, in granting the ex parte application moved by EFCC counsel Fadila Yusuf, noted that there was sufficient evidence to warrant the arrests.
Meanwhile, Abiodun’s legal counsel, Babatunde Busari, told Daily Sun that his client surrendered voluntarily to clear his name and counter what he described as false reports circulating about his alleged role in the investment scam.
The EFCC’s investigations into the massive CBEX fraud continue as efforts to recover stolen funds and bring all responsible parties to justice intensify.
