LAGOS – Two players at the ongoing Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) 37th edition of Senior Open Tennis Championship, on Saturday expressed their desire to qualify for the main draws.
The players, Benson Azuka and Michael Chima, who won their second preliminary rounds, want to be in the main game, which starts on Monday at the National Stadium Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event, with 150 registered players, started on May 14, and will end on May 23.
with 24 seeded players four Wide Cards within 51 ranked players.
Azuka, who defeated Stephen Abamu 42-41 to proceed for the next round on Sunday, said “I am not a rookie in this game and will make it to the competition proper.
“Musa Kabiru who is my next opponent, should brace up for a game of wit; I must stretch him with snatch and drop shots to win,” he said.
Chima, from Owerri, said that nothing would stop him from making inroad into the competition proper.
“This is my second attempt and it has been rosy so far; with two wins in two games, the coast is getting clearer.

“My two remaining games are going to be easier, for both Isaac Attah and Braimoh Musa my opponents, are debutants,’’ he said.
NAN reports that winners are to cart away N700, 000 while the runners-up get N500, 000.
The competition would be drawn 64 players for the Men Singles, 32 for the Men Doubles, while 32 for the Female Singles and 16 for the Female Doubles. (NAN)
