ABUJA – The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, on Tuesday said he had welcomed the international support for counter insurgency operation.
Badeh said this in Abuja while receiving the Commander of the United States African Command (US-AFRICOM), Lt-.Gen. David Rodriguez, at the Defence Headquarters.
In a statement issued by Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, the Director of Defence Information in Abuja, Badeh said the support would complement the ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to rescue the missing Chibok girls.
The CDS also described the relationship between Nigeria and the United States as mutual and strategic.
He expressed appreciation to the United States on behalf of the Federal Government for responding positively to the call for assistance in the search and rescue of the abducted school girls.
The CDS said the Nigerian military had over time benefited immensely from the bilateral relationship between the two countries, particularly in the area of training and military hardware.
He said the Nigerian Navy had received a number of operational equipment and support as part of U.S. support to the Nigerian military in combating oil theft and other maritime threats.
Badeh said the Nigerian military was already re-strategising its operational doctrines to match the emerging trend of asymmetrical warfare currently confronting the nation.
In his remarks, Rodriguez said he was at the Defence Headquarters to discuss modalities in furtherance of U.S. support to Nigerian Military, to end insurgency in the country. (NAN) |
