Kano – Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has begun training of its members on the content and benefits of the Freedom of Information Act and the National Disabilities Act.
The Director of the Centre, Mr David Anyaele in his remarks at the opening of the training, said it was necessary to equip his colleagues with knowledge to demand accountability and transparency at all levels of government.
According to him, we aim at strengthening the capacity of our members in getting fully involved in good governance at all levels.
He highlighted the importance of the training and urged People With Disabilities (PWDs) to take advantage of the programme, to learn new approach for an all-inclusive approach to fighting corruption.
Anyeale further appealed to them to extend the skills and knowledge they acquired at the training, down to their various associations and organisations, as they were carefully selected because of their capacity and leadership positions.
NAN reports that the three-day training was supported by Actionaid Nigeria through UKaid funded project on Strengthening Citizens Resistance against the Prevalence of corruption (SCRAP-C).
The training also aimed at contributing to mass reduction in corruption, using attitudinal change that would increasingly disapprove of corrupt activities.
Participants at the training were drawn from the National Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities (NAPPD), National Association of the Deaf and National Association of the Blind.
Others participants were also drawn from Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria, Persons Affected by Leprosy Kano State Chapters and Disability chiefs from all clusters as well as representatives of the media.
The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) is the premier organisation of, and for persons with disabilities that promotes disability rights, independent living, inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities in development agenda.
