Lagos (Lagos State) – Gbenga Dosumu, Head Coach of Cerebral Palsy (CP) Seven-A-Side Football Association of Nigeria, on Tuesday said training for the Cerebral Palsy Football competition in Portugal would start soon.
Dosumu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that the training would take place thrice a week at the Perdition field behind the National Stadium Hotel in Surulere.
Dosumu said: “We have been invited to participate at the CP Football competition holding in two months time and we have commenced open camp in Lagos where we have majority of our players.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“The response has been impressive. It will assist us to be in better form when we are officially invited for closed camp by the authority.
“The early training is fundamental because of the nature of the disabilities faced by the players involved in the sport, as we need enough time and patience to train them’’, he said.
The coach said the body which is affiliated to the Nigeria Paralympics Committee, was aware of the tournament and had forwarded proposals to the National Sports Commission.
According to him, the players are in high spirit to represent the nation and exhibit their skills at the competition.
NAN reports that Cerebral Palsy is a disorder which affects patients’ ability to move, due to damage in the brain either during pregnancy or shortly after birth.
It affects individuals in different ways such as body movement, muscle control, muscle coordination, muscle tone, reflex, posture and balance. (NAN)
