ABUJA – Dr Tex Wariboko, the Chairman of NEPAD State Coordinators Forum, has called for the independent funding of NEPAD Nigeria programmes.
Wariboko told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday that independent funding of NEPAD Nigeria programmes by the government would fast track development.

“We need money to implement most of the programmes of NEPAD.

“The budget of NEPAD Nigeria has to be independent so as to let it fulfill its mandate without fear or favour,’’ Wariboko said.

He said the objectives of NEPAD Nigeria revolved round good health, economy, small and medium entrepreneurship development, good governance, education, women empowerment and agriculture.[eap_ad_2]

“We have challenges of training and retraining of staff that are being seconded to us by some ministries on NEPAD skills.

“They are often rotated, after two years they are pulled out to their ministry and we have to train another new staff,’’ he said.

Wariboko said that the recent retreat for NEPAD Nigeria state coordinators and focal officers availed them the opportunity to discuss funding issues that would fast track the implementation of its mandate.

“I believe that we still need some autonomous framework in the legal aspect of NEPAD that is enabling laws to be able to deliver efficiently.’’ (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
