Onitsha (Anambra)- The Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ONICCIMA) has advised the Federal Government to inaugurate a committee to enforce the reduction of the pump price of petrol to N87.
The President of the chamber, Dr Tim Anosike, who gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Onitsha, Anambra, described the reduction of the pump price of fuel as “very laudable“.
Anosike said without a committee to enforce the price reduction, most fuel stations would deliberately refuse to implement the new price of the product.
“I watched with gladness last night when the minister was talking about it; she said 12 mid-night.
“Unfortunately, even when I went out this morning, I went out with joy to see if I could get the product at that N87 (per litre). I still got it at that higher price (N97).

“So, it is not only (about) announcing it, government should follow it up (with action); maybe set up a monitoring team to make sure that petrol marketers adhere strictly to that directive because it would ease the sufferings of the masses and business will thrive.
He said the downward review of the fuel pump price would cushion the effect of the global slump of oil prices.
“This is one directive that would have positive impact on all Nigerians no matter where he or she resides within the country.“ (NAN)
