LAGOS – Leaders of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement on Friday appealed to religious leaders to collaborate with the Federal Government to find lasting solutions to various problems plaguing Nigeria.
The Most Rev. Samuel Abidoye, the Chairman of the movement, made the appeal while speaking with newsmen on the state of the nation at Ikeja, Lagos.
Abidoye said that religious leaders should not leave effort at finding lasting solutions to the nation’s many problems to the government alone.
He said the appeal became necessary because Nigeria belonged to both leaders and their followers.
“Religious leaders should also rise up to the occasion as the government alone cannot solve the problems confronting the country.
“Nigeria is our country, we cannot allow its challenges to continue like this,’’ he said.
Abidoye also urged leaders to always demonstrate the fear of God in whatever they did, adding that this was imperative in taking Nigeria to greater heights.
“Leadership is a grace from God and leaders will give account of their stewardships on the last day, he said.
Abidoye charged leaders to endeavor to do “what is just and right,” saying that a leader was not in position of authority to represent a clique, religion or tribe but God.
“Leaders should understand that whatever they do on earth, they will give an account of it to God.’’
Abidoye also called for peaceful co-existence among Nigerians to promote national growth and development.
“We need to re-examine ourselves and fashion out ways to solve the current challenges; as Christians we should understand that peaceful co-existence and forgiveness are paramount,’’ he said.
The cleric who commended the Federal Government for its efforts in addressing the challenges, however, told government to do more to stem terror in the country.
“We equally call on all men of goodwill, especially those from the part of the country where sectarian insurgency is rife, to discourage their youths from being used to attack and kill innocent lives by the insurgents.
The cleric condemned the spate of ritual killings, kidnapping and armed robbery in the country and called on all to be prayerful and to alert security agencies anytime they suspected suspicious moves.
“In this season when we are about to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, I want to call on all Nigerians not to relent in their prayers for peace in our country.
“There is no doubt that perpetrators of evil activities are on the prowl but we should not be discouraged, rather, we should move closer to God for He alone can protect us from the snares of the evil ones,’’ he stated. (NAN)
